You may have priced out a shower remodel and felt what you’ll pay is fair. But will you end up paying for more? What other expenses should you prepare for after your shower remodel?
Shugarman's Bath has completed over 6,500 tub and shower remodels. While many don’t need extra work afterward, some projects have required repairs in other parts of the bathroom. We know where that extra work usually shows up.
This article breaks down which repairs you might need after a remodel, what they typically cost, and who can handle them.
Table of Contents:
Most of the time, you won’t have extra repairs since shower remodels keep the same layout. However, you might need flooring and paint repairs.
Some remodels involve removing a tub and installing a walk-in shower, which can expose flooring. Removing drywall to finish the job can also mean repainting or touching up the exposed areas afterward.
Costs vary depending on how much flooring or paint you need.
At Shugarman's Bath, we've found that a shower remodel typically costs about 70% of a full bathroom remodel. The remaining 30% goes toward the other parts of the bathroom.
If you need electrical or plumbing work for the rest of your bathroom, always hire a licensed electrician or plumber, respectively. Mistakes in these areas can lead to larger and more expensive problems later.
For flooring and paint, you might hire a general contractor, a licensed handyman, or do it yourself. LVP flooring, short for luxury vinyl plank, is a common choice for this kind of repair. It clicks together like a floating floor and can be installed right over your existing tile. You can finish a small area in less than a day. Painting is also a good DIY option if you want your bathroom walls to complement your new shower.
Shugarman's Bath specializes in tub and shower remodels only. We don't do full bathroom renovations. Flooring and painting the bathroom are outside our scope of work.
The best way to avoid surprises is to get the scope of work and details in writing before your remodel starts. Any reputable contractor can walk you through every detail of your contract so you know exactly what you’re paying for now and potentially later. You can plan for flooring, paint, or other parts of your bathroom ahead of time.
Now that you know what repairs you might need to pay for after a remodel, you might be thinking about tackling the rest of your bathroom. Read our guide on how to go about a full bathroom remodel.

FAQs About Cost:Q: Does Shugarman's Bath Do Repair Work? No, Shugarman's Bath does not do general repair work. Repairs are temporary fixes that buy time but don't solve the underlying problem. Most homeowners end up paying for the same repair more than once, or eventually replacing the materials anyway after spending money trying to maintain them. Q: How many design options does Shugarman's Bath offer?Shugarman's Bath offers 500-600 color and style options, so you can find a combination that fits your bathroom and your taste. Q: What materials do you use for your tub and shower products? Our products are mainly composed of a material called BP-Cor2. It's a high-tech polymer made up of 15% acrylic and 85% ABS, the same material used to make football helmets. It's a step up from traditional tile and standard acrylic. We can laser-etch grout lines into the material to give it the look of tile without the cleaning and maintenance that comes with it. We call it Modern Tile. |
