What Matters Most

The best shower remodelers in San Diego (in alphabetical order) include:

  • Jackson Design and Remodeling
  • Lars Remodeling & Design
  • Remodel Works Bath & Kitchen Design of San Diego
  • Sheiner Construction
  • Shugarman's Bath

Not every contractor who shows up on a Google search is worth your time. San Diego has the best weather in the United States, but its remodeling market is crowded. Too many homeowners have handed over their trust and money to contractors who cut corners, went silent mid-project, or left them with failed work. You don’t want to roll the dice when you let someone into your home.

If you don’t know where to start when looking for a contractor, this article is for you. We checked the licenses and insurance, looked up the reviews, dug into the BBB profiles, and reviewed each website for pricing and shower material information.

Before continuing, we want to let you know that we did put ourselves on this list. We stand behind our work and believe we belong here. But we're transparent enough to tell you that we aren't the right fit for every homeowner. We might not have what you’re looking for.

The best five companies below are listed alphabetically. What makes each one unique is based on what they share publicly.

Table of Contents:

What Makes a Great Shower Remodeling Company in San Diego?

A good shower remodeler is properly licensed, shows up on time, does the job right, takes accountability when something goes wrong, is transparent with their customers, and stands behind their work.

The remodeling industry is filled with contractors who cut corners, don’t communicate well, or disappear from a job. You deserve a company worthy of your time.

What Should You Look for When Hiring a Tub and Shower Remodeler?

These are the criteria to consider when vetting any tub-and-shower remodeler in San Diego, along with an explanation of each.

Licensing and Insurance

In California, any contractor doing tub or shower remodeling work must hold at least a Class B General Building license issued by the California State License Board (CSLB). A Class B General Building license allows a contractor to work on structures requiring at least 2 unrelated building trades, meaning they can handle the full scope of a remodel.

Other licenses a contractor holds will be included to confirm additional expertise. For example, a contractor holding a C36 Plumbing license demonstrates they have achieved a specific level of expertise in plumbing.

We’re excluding businesses with only a B-2 Residential Remodeling Contractor license because it permits contractors to make only cosmetic improvements to existing residential structures.

You can verify any contractor's license directly on the CSLB website. Always make sure their licenses are active.

Workers’ compensation insurance covers any worker who gets injured on your property during your remodel. If a contractor doesn't carry it and someone gets hurt, you could be held liable. That means potential liens against your home or legal costs that follow you for years.

Google Reviews

Google reviews are a good indicator of how a company treats its customers. Every company on this list has a minimum rating of 4.5 stars.

Volume will also be considered. A high rating backed by hundreds of reviews carries more weight than the same rating backed by a dozen.

Better Business Bureau (BBB) Accreditation and Rating

BBB accreditation means a business has applied to be a BBB member, paid the associated fees, and agreed to uphold the BBB's standards for trust and transparency. Not every good company is accredited. However, being BBB accredited means a contractor is willing to be held to an external standard.

For BBB ratings, this is the BBB's own assessment of a business based on factors like complaint history, time in business, licensing, and how complaints were resolved. Ratings run from A+ down to F. For this list, ratings must be either an A or an A+.

Tub and Shower Area Materials

The materials a remodeler installs affect how long your project lasts and how easy it is to maintain. Things worth asking about include how they waterproof the walls, what type of silicone they use at seams and joints, and whether the products they install are built to handle daily moisture over the long term.

Not every company publishes this information on its website. Where shower materials are publicly available, we’ve included them in each company’s section. Materials should be part of the conversation before you sign anything.

Read our article that ranks shower wall materials based on maintenance.

Pricing

Pricing for tub and shower remodeling in San Diego varies widely depending on the contractor, their pricing model, the project scope, and materials.

Where pricing is publicly available, we've included it in each company's section. We'll also note when pricing isn't listed and whether each company offers a free consultation.
