The Tub and Shower Remodel Design Consultation Process

If you’re reading this, it probably means you’ve scheduled your tub or shower design consultation with Shugarman’s Bath. And that’s exciting! This is where your ideas become a real plan, your space is understood, and your project starts taking shape.

Booking a design consultation is already a large step. After all, you’re exploring solutions for your tub and shower area to bring your remodel to life. So, it makes sense if you have a lot of questions beforehand.

How long will it take? What happens during the consultation? How do I know if I’m making the right choices? How do I know you’re being honest with me during my consultation?

You’re probably wondering what will happen during this consultation process and are worried about the choices that need to be made. Don’t worry. That’s completely normal. Plenty of our customers have dealt with less-than-honest home services before.

We want to make our process as clear as possible for you. We don’t expect you to know the technical jargon. We won’t use industry terms to sneak anything past you.

At Shugarman’s Bath, we want you to know the details of this exact process beforehand. We pride ourselves on transparency. Our goal is to make your experience clearer, educational, and to help you make confident decisions about your tub or shower remodel.

This guide will walk you through what will happen before, during, and after your design consultation. When your consultation day arrives, you’ll be prepared, informed, and more in control of your project.

How Does the Shugarman’s Bath Consultation Compare to Others?

Many contractors will spend a few minutes in your home, take a few pictures, and promise to “get back to you with a quote.” And while they do, you receive a vague number with little explanation behind it.

Other contractors will go into your home, do some measurements, dodge your questions, give you a vague quote, and push hard (sometimes to the point of being ruthless) in getting you to sign a contract with them.

Shugarman’s Bath doesn’t like any of those scenarios.

Our consultation process is designed to educate you first. We’re not ones to apply unnecessary pressure, especially when you’re making a big decision for your home. We want to understand your home, your needs, and your goals before the design or pricing decisions are made.

We encourage you to ask questions, compare options, and really know what will work best for your space. If we don’t have answers to questions, we’ll tell you that we don’t know. We will find an answer and let you know what we learn later.

We want to help you feel confident in your project and know how to make decisions in your home in general. It’s important to us that you leave the consultation with clearer information, a complete design of your tub or shower remodel, and an exact price, even if you don’t move forward with us.

How Long Does a Design Consultation Take?

The typical consultation takes around 90 minutes. However, some consultations can last up to two or even three hours, depending on the design, your questions, and the conversation with your design consultant.

The last thing we want to do is rush this process, especially when you’re making a big decision.

What Happens During the Design Consultation?

Here’s what you can expect on the day of your consultation.

Step One: Introductions and Getting to Know You

The first step is that your design consultant will arrive at your home, greet you, and introduce themselves.

After we’re let into your home, we would like to sit with you at the table (or wherever you’re most comfortable) since that is where we do our best work. We want to learn more about you, your home, and your goals for the project.

Before any measurements are taken, we complete a short homeowner survey with you. This will help us understand your needs, style, budget goals, and how you use your bathroom so we can help make the design the best fit for you.

Step Two: Inspection and Measurements

Next, we will inspect your current tub and shower area. We take full measurements, photos for your project file, moisture readings, and carefully check for cracks, damage, and structural concerns. We also create a little sketch of your space so nothing is missed.

You don’t need to clear out the space for us. You can keep your shampoo bottles, body washes, conditioners, and bath sponges where they are.

And don’t worry, we won't dig around in your bathroom and look in your medicine cabinets. The only place we’ll be is the tub and shower area.

You’re welcome to be with us the entire time. We don’t mind. After all, we recognize we’re the ones in your home. Plus, you might have questions as we take measurements. Ask, and we’ll answer!

Step Three: Who We Are and Planning Your Tub or Shower Remodel

After inspecting your tub and shower area, we’ll return to the table (or wherever you’re most comfortable) and begin talking to you about who Shugarman’s Bath is and planning your remodel.

We’ll explain who Shugarman’s Bath is, how we protect homeowners, how to research contractors, our four-layer never-leak waterproofing system, warranties that protect your remodel, and why licensing, insurance, and communication matter for a remodeling project, even if you choose someone other than us.

We also walk you through how our employee-based installation teams operate and why it matters for your home.

The purpose of this step is to help you understand who will be in your home and how your tub or shower remodel will be built.

Step Four: Designing Your New Space

This is usually the most fun part for everyone involved in the decision. You get to design your new space. So you’ll look at wall colors and patterns, metal trims and finishes, doors and glass, seating and accessories, custom shower floors, and your full BP-Cor2 system.

Step Five: Your Down to the Penny Quote

We won’t give you a rough estimate and make your project subject to change later. We take pride in giving the exact price the first time. The last thing Shugarman’s Bath wants is to surprise you with hidden costs

This is backed by our Never Any Extras Guarantee. Again, the price in your proposal is the price you pay.

The final price is determined by the design choices you make, including materials, finishes, accessories, and whether you choose standard or premium options.

What Happens After Your Tub and Shower Consultation?

If you need time to decide, your design consultant will email you your proposal and follow up with you in a few days. Our scheduling team may also reach out to make sure all of your questions have been answered.

If you decide to move forward, your project is transferred to our operations team. They will review your contract to ensure accuracy, order your materials, schedule your installation, and guide you through the step-by-step process

From that point, our production team will complete your installation and handle any service needs.

Does Anything Else Happen Before Your Consultation?

Our scheduling team stays in close contact with you. They’ll send reminders, confirm your appointment, and share helpful resources so you feel prepared and comfortable before your design consultant arrives.
